Many Chinese didn’t think so especially for building chips, China shouldn’t dig the main players into graves. But now there is no more argument. What I believe is most of the home appliances and auto industry donot require 14nm or 7nm or less. 40nm will do the job. So China will still be leading in such area. The other aspect is what is the use of high western technology if they cannot sell in the world largest consumer market China. What is the use of innovations if you are not able to commercialize them. China is doing really good. It will take time but getting to 5nm from 7nm will be faster than getting to 3nm from 5nm. So in few years chinese chip industry will not only catchup but over takes the current leaders as theh have the capital, experts and above all a huge domestic market. Short terms problem are solved. 2. Government allocated $1.5 trillions to build local chips industry.
