the thing americans do not seem to understand is that the more pressure you put on china by banning this or that is that china will be forced to develope those capabilities for themselves and not be beholden to other countries....in 10 years, america itself will suffer the consequences of reduced market penetration when chinese products flood the market...

If China wants, they can catch up on anything and quickly. A lot of countries want but can't.

This is the moment China begins to reclaim its place in the global pecking order. Back to its position of primacy for most of history.

Recent progress indicates that they are on the way to be the only country in the world which has full spectrum supply chains, covering electronic, chemical, optical and all other components, for chip design and manufacturing.

Good vlog, thanks.
There was an argument in China for many years - should China do everything in the environment of globalization? Many Chinese didn’t think so especially for building chips, China shouldn’t dig the main players into graves.
But now there is no more argument. Thanks trump and Biden, they really help China to make the hard decisions.

Great work and precise information.
What I believe is most of the home appliances and auto industry donot require 14nm or 7nm or less. 40nm will do the job. So China will still be leading in such area.
The other aspect is what is the use of high western technology if they cannot sell in the world largest consumer market China.
What is the use of innovations if you are not able to commercialize them.
China is doing really good. It will take time but getting to 5nm from 7nm will be faster than getting to 3nm from 5nm. So in few years chinese chip industry will not only catchup but over takes the current leaders as theh have the capital, experts and above all a huge domestic market. For most of the companies in china domestic market is more than enough to survive and keep innovating.

The US and its allies will regret their policy of isolating China. Remember China has a long history of aversion to trading outside its borders. China knows how to depend on itself and will do so given the isolationist policy of the West. America is cutting its nose to spite its face! You don't have to be smart to know how it will end!

1. Samsung currently producing 5nm chips for Huawei without US' IP. Short terms problem are solved.
2. Government allocated $1.5 trillions to build local chips industry. Obviously will attract the best talents to build the chips industry.

It is the nature of the chinese to emerge even stronger when faced with hardships and obstacles and adversaries. Even the wordings in some their pop songs already warn you that you are dealing with a people who believe the road to hardship will always lead to success.
