The US’ Position as the Dominant Capitalist Power Is Changing - Richard Wolff [Global Capitalism] 13,814 views •Jun 5, 2021 1.3K 14 Share Save Democracy At Work 238K subscribers This is a clip from the May 2021 Global Capitalism lecture in which Richard Wolff gives three examples that indicate the US's position of global power is changing, and its ability to influence global events is shrinking. “[In the case of Russian/German gas pipeline,] the Germans said ‘Sorry, we're not closing this deal with Russia. We're going to continue and finish it.’ The United States jumped up and down, yelled, threatened to sanction any company that participated in laying the pipes. It made no difference. The Germans said, ‘You can do whatever you want. We're doing this. Go away.’... [In the case of vaccine patents the Europeans are] not gonna budge. And they've told Mr Biden the power, the influence of the United States is not what it was in the past.” The full lecture is titled "Biden’s Economic Plans and Likely Results [May 2021]." In the full lecture, Prof Wolff discusses the following topics: 1. Changes in Government Spending and Taxing 2. Joe Biden and Franklin Roosevelt: Differences and Similarities 3. Historic Decline of US Capitalism: Reality vs Denial Watch the full lecture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9lWJ... ______________________________________________________________________________________ We make it a point to provide the show free of ads. Thank you Prof.Wolff. To be honest, the hubris, which seems to accompany dominance has a negative impact on the perceptions of others, ie, non americans. we have been moving on. As a Scot I reject the notion that Britain is great. Was once, if you measure greatness in terms of imperialism. History teaches us that empires come and go. Chuck the hubris. Adapt. The survival of us all requires that adaptation. A wee touch of humility would not go amiss. Stay safe, get your vaccine. We have a new normal to build. 36 ain't dat snipes ain't dat snipes 12 hours ago US over the last 13 years have faced the most breathtaking and rapid economic and societal collapse in world history while our "leaders" have profited handsomely. The economy has had virtually no growth (income) in that time. So who in there right mind is going to listen ,much less respect a country like that? 45 t0m1ca t0m1ca 10 hours ago war is good business, as long as you fight it in a country far far away it doesnt matter if you win, it matters how long it lasts 10 tean tan tean tan 11 hours ago "End of the American exceptionalism" A quote from Prof. Sachs 34 joe joe 9 hours ago Life here in the US doesn’t have to be shit. If we shifted into a society with more socialist values and put our resources into improving lives instead of conquering the world, our standard of living would improve. Screw being the “dominant power”. There’s no benefit for us. 33 Wn Klee Wn Klee 2 hours ago The US has a big problem: they cannot bomb China back into the stone age. 1 Conker H. Thank you, professor! 15 No Commentary No Commentary 9 hours ago The United States is a fading power. I am just fearful that its decline into relative obscurity as the world moves on will not go down peacefully. Dying Empires are predisposed towards pointless military conflict in order to maintain some semblance of power. 26 Craig Lan Craig Lan 10 hours ago Richard Wolff : my favorite economics professor 🤓📖🎯🌈🥰📸
