We were here in Feb of 2015 and it was much more beautiful since we didn't have overcast sky's. The snowcapped Himalaya mtns. are right there, rising 13,000 ft. absolutely breathtaking. Having travelled all across China, the Yunnan Provence is the friendliest, most respectful and least polluted of it all. The absence of empty high rise buildings brings normalcy here as compared to the east, art is cherished and a sense of love and reality exists. The specialty foods, and entertainment are unbeaten. The locals seem to enjoy their own culture, plain old common sense, and don't try and compete with the west, something you don't find in other parts, which makes them happier, inmo. They have no shame over their rich past and present. Religions here are tolerated much greater also, the spectacular Pagodas and Temples are better upkept, cleaner ,public bathrooms are not as smelly, and history preserved, making them friendlier. Having travelled to over 45 countries, this place is a travel destination and worthy of peoples bucket list. Oh, you will find fakery here , just not in abundance, it's pretty much the real deal. The only downside are chain smokers, and spitter's that come from the east that interrupt moments of glory and who cut you in lines and walking. It's a good thing there weren't more of them. Lijang get's a 5 star from me, don't ruin it, don't change it, don't be rude to it, leave it intact for posterity, and for God's sake have respect when you are there.
